How To Study The Bible, Inductively-Part 6
72
Here we go with part six. We are more than half way through as there are two steps left. As I stated before, once you practice these steps enough, it will seem like second nature. There has been a lot of information so don't be discouraged. Just use this information often and you will grow in the Spirit more than ever.
Step six will get even more personal than step five. The over-riding question we will ask in this step is: What is in the way of these precepts affecting me? What is in the way of me listening to God? Keep those in mind as we go through this. These will guide how you view what you have just read and learned.
You will, inevitably, come across some scripture that means something. You will know it does but won't be able to put a finger on it. Now you need to know, what does this mean and why is it there? Here is another great opportunity to use that Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. This book will guide you to the answers you seek, using the very best of commentaries-the bible itself. I highly recommend the KJV, also. Words mean things and the words from it are translated straight form the original text. You will want to be absolutely sure that what you learn is accurate, so don't be afraid to check other sources, like a good commentary. However, all you really need are the KJV, the Webster 1828 dictionary and the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge.
You will want to start digging into scripture now, but, you now need to do this on a personal level. You want to find out how this affects you and encourages and strengthens you. Look for areas that you have fallen short and how you can improve. Never forget to pray. Keep praying as God will reveal these areas to you.
Once you have discovered areas you might need to improve, you will need to know what to do with that information. The best, and foremost, place to start is in understanding that the bible is Truth. That is how you will know it. It is a fundamental idea that God is Truth and He cannot lie. So, whatever He says, goes. We must have the willingness for God to break us and our will and turn our desires over to His.
Read the bible. What did God say to you today? Are there any sins that you need to repent of? Confession is good for the soul. Appreciate God's word and heed His instructions. Like the good Father He is, He knows what is best for us.
With these simple understandings, you will be well on your way to being a changed person. Changed for the good, into His image, with the indwelling of Christ within you. It is powerful and beautiful. Receive the Word and be ye transformed. Next time, step seven, happy reading!
